Wednesday What The What: Stop And Smell The Illegal Roses

Flower vendor on corner of Ocean Pkwy and Avenue S
Apparently, the police have been cracking down on illegal flower vendors throughout Brooklyn.
Florists complained that unlicensed flower stands were costing them between $5,000 and $10,000 a week, according to TLJ-News.  Around holidays, that number skyrockets. The unregistered florists don’t pay taxes on their businesses.
So, does a rose smell just as sweet if sold by an unregistered florist or are we doing a disservice to our local shops by buying from the street?

Avenue P gets a makeover

It didn't take long to repave Avenue P from McDonald Avenue to Ocean Parkway.  Credit Council Member David Greenfield for pushing this project forward after years of neglect and recent complaints from the community.

The most hazardous block on the bike path

View Friends of Ocean Parkway in a larger map

It is not official but it is easy to see that the most hazardous block on the bike path runs from Avenue W to Avenue X.  There are numerous problems with the path including broken concrete, uneven pavement, and danagerously large butt bouncing faults.  You can see these areas on the map if you zoom to street view or view it in a larger map.  The markers indicate the hazardous spots along that one block route.  Proceed with caution.  We will examine the safety of the other blocks and report back to you.  We hope that the plan to rehabilitate the rest of malls will begin with this block.  It needs it desperately.
